Shortly after six-year-old Eric Warren goes missing, a young man turns up on the family's doorstep, spinning a tall tale about time-travel, dark magic and a commune of kidnapped children on a remote Scottish island - and claiming that he is their missing son.
I'm absolutely thrilled to see this book out in the world. It's been a true labour of love over the past couple of years, and it's something I'm deeply proud of. Coming in at a hefty 50,000 words (is it a long novella? a short novel?), it mixes elements of crime fiction with time travel, portal fantasy, Satanic horror... It's such a strange beast that Black Shuck deserve a medal for publishing it.
The book has already received some glowing endorsements from Una McCormack, Alison Littlewood, Aliya Whiteley and Tim Major, but why not grab a copy here and make your own mind up.
AWARDS NEWS!!
You may have already seen this, but I was blown away yesterday by the announcement that Unquiet Guests, my anthology with Dead Ink Books, has been shortlisted for this year's Shirley Jackson Awards.
I've been nominated for the awards once before, back in 2018, and I can
genuinely say that it transformed my writing career. It's incredible to
see Unquiet Guests getting so much love - grab a copy below if you
don't have one already!
As if that wasn't enough, Writing the Magic has also been shortlisted, this time for the British Fantasy Awards.
It's a true testament to the wonderful essays in the book, so if you
have any interest at all in writing, then pick up a copy. The British
Fantasy Awards will be announced at Fantasycon in Glasgow this October -
see you there...?
